Vancouver is well known for its many different cuisines. If you are a foodie, this is one place you need to put on your list of places to visit and eat! From hidden gems to hole-in-the-wall finds, Vancouver is not short on amazing foods. Before COVID you would have seen packed-out restaurants and giant line ups to food trucks. Although the look of things has changed, like lineups being socially distanced, the food scene is still alive and thriving!
I had the pleasure of trying out some of the newest places in Vancouver and I can’t wait to share what I learned and loved about each place. Even with COVID, these places are so delicious that there is still such a demand, even if it’s for takeout. As a Vancouverite, I LOVE discovering what’s new and what’s up and coming in the food scene. Get ready to drool over these dishes.
1. OEB Breakfast:
Let’s start with what OEB stands for! Outstanding People, Embracing Evolution and Bold Food Integrity! OEB firmly believes in prioritizing personality, connection and values. I can tell you first hand that they stand by this! The staff were outstanding and extremely hands-on and helpful. They have confidence in growth and change and adapting to new ideas. One thing they really pride themselves on is favouring seasonal, fresh ingredients at all costs. When you walk into OEB, you can see the seasonal fresh ingredients nicely displayed in a fridge to give you that assurance. For more about who they are, check this out.
Let’s get to the good stuff though. If you are gluten sensitive or celiac they have you covered, from all sorts of GF options and vegetarian options. You can rest assured that there will be no cross-contamination as they have a completely separate place to prep and cook your foods. The decor of the restaurant speaks volumes to what they are all about. From the eggshell lights to the big sunny side-up egg that welcomes you as you walk in. You will not be disappointed here.
Pro Tip: Order the mimosa flight just to try out all the different mimosa types, then order a breakfast cocktail!

2.) The Ventura Room
If you like a West Coast Cali sort of vibe, then you will love the Ventura Room. They are all about comfort and making you feel like your just at a friend’s place for cocktails. Their cocktails and food are so well executed, yet simple. They have a KILLER happy hour menu as well if you are all about the happy hour finds! With a wide variety of foods to choose from and a little something for everyone, even if you have some food allergies, you will not be disappointed. The other thing I enjoyed about this place is the drink selection. The cocktails they offer are amazing. If you are a craft beer lover, they have a great selection for you to choose from as well as my personal favourite, the cheeky boilermaker.
Pro Tip: If you go on happy hour, the cheeky boilermaker is is only $10.00 and you get a pint of Guinness plus a small “cheeky” of your choice (which is essentially a small cocktail). Also if you want a really fun experience, ask them to make you a shot or cocktail that comes in the “smoker.”
