Live Your Best Mom Life – 5 Tips On How To Start
Collectively as a group of moms, we all want to know how to live our best mom life. I just said the other day in an Instagram video that I was totally exhausted and “moming hard.” I recognize this is not a real phrase (at least I don’t think so) but it did make me realize that being a mom is HARD some days. This term that just slipped out of my mouth should be in the dictionary.
Moming Hard
noun (mum-ing hard)
1.) the feeling a mother feels after endless sleepless nights,
laundry loads you’ve done three times because mold has now formed,
while spit up and yesterday’s makeup is on you.
Something like that… Does anyone agree?
OK but seriously, we can become so exhausted as mothers that it eventually will take a toll on our bodies, minds and overall health. This could eventually affect our relationship with our kids if we’re not careful.
With that being said, I don’t want to see anyone burning out, let alone myself. As mothers, we deserve days where we care for ourselves. Use these 5 essential self-care tips that will help you live the best mom life now, and be the best mom you possibly can.
Sleep
Yes, the thing we would all love to experience more of but sometimes is out of our hands. I know as of lately I feel like I haven’t got enough of this. What I did find somewhat helpful is even if your feeding or nursing a small baby, just laying in bed till you feel somewhat rested can help if you’re not a big napper.
This was always my problem. That “sleep when the baby is sleeping” theory NEVER worked for me. If you can relate, just take your babies and hang out in bed and do what you got to do to get some rest. If you are one of the fortunate ones who can nap, then do it ANYTIME you can.
Eat Nutritiously
I get that while you’re making your toddler that box of Kraft Dinner, it’s easy to just scoop yourself up a bowl as well because you’ve got no energy. I have been there, TRUST ME. But I find if I start my day off right with a nice high protein breakfast it gives me the energy I need to power through my days.
Another thing to watch when eating nutritiously is how much iron your getting. Iron plays a big role in our energy and fighting against fatigue. Typically as women, it’s one of the vitamins we are naturally low on.
Exercise
In line with a healthy nutritious diet to give us the energy we need, a SMALL workout can help give us another boost. I’m not talking an hour at the gym, I am not even talking 30 mins. I am referring to a nice walk with your children, or perhaps a small 10-15 minute workout you can do from home.
Just get moving! The point is to not worry about the length of time but to just START. The reasoning for this is because exercise increases the blood flow in our bodies and the more blood and oxygen going through our bodies, the more energy we’re providing our bodies to be able to do the work it needs. Check out this 20-minute workout perfect for the busy mom right here.
Do something you LOVE to do
We adore our kids! No person is ever judging the love we have our children, so it is OK to do some things that WE love to do.
Get a babysitter, get your husband to watch the kids, or find a way to escape for a little bit and step away from being a mom for a minute. Remember being a mom isn’t all there is to us. It doesn’t even have to be a long escape. An hour away to go shopping or grab a coffee and go do your grocery shop but in peace with no kids. Anything that gives you a small break and is something you enjoy doing, DO IT. No mom-guilt allowed!
Pamper Yourself
This is something I do every day. My husband gets home from work likes having someone on one time with the girls. While he does that, I get in the bath, usually with a glass of wine (not going to lie) and just unwind (or should I say unWINEd).
It keeps me sane to have that break.
Even if it’s taking some time to yourself to give yourself a little manicure or pedicure, or read a book if you’re a book lover. Again, it doesn’t need to cost a lot, nor does it need to be super time-consuming. Be resourceful and do something that will have you feeling relaxed and refreshed.
Recognize how easy it can be to burn yourself out with motherhood. Use these necessary, simple and essential self-care tips to be the BEST mom you can be because you deserve it! Remember, you can’t draw from an empty cup!

This is so important and I’m not even a mother yet but self-care is so essential for anyone to keep being your best self.

Oh my gosh, yes to all of this! My younger daughter didn’t sleep well until she was 3, and I finally started to feel like myself once I was getting decent sleep. I now exercise 5x a week and it makes me feel like ME again! Definitely key to being a great mom.

It is so hard to put ourselves first sometimes but it’s so essential if we’re giving and giving and giving.

I absolutely love this post. I’ve been moming SO darn hard these last few months and I love every minute of it – but I am EXHAUSTED. I’m definitely not my best self, even though I have a big goofy smile on my face half the time. I agree that sleep, eating well, and overall self care is important. I’ve been trying really hard to just enjoy some of my vices a bit more guilt free. Like watching my fave shows (even and esp the trainwreck reality shows… haha) or getting back into reading MY books. Sometimes that much needed break and very necessary “me time” is all I need to get that boost.

Yes!! That is exactly true. It is so hard sometimes to put ourselves first but necessary for our overall wellbeing as moms. Glad your taking small steps in the that direction!! xoxo.
