Top 5 Camping Hacks With a Toddler & Baby
Growing up I always loved camping. I was RAISED on camping starting at just a few weeks old. Naturally being raised like this and loving the memories we have, my husband and I were determined to carry that on and not let children stop us from doing the things we love. Camping with a toddler and a baby (specifically three months old) can be challenging. There are so many things to pack and limited space. We have successfully done it multiple times now and I am sharing my Top 5 Camping hacks with a toddler and baby.
Toddler Bed
To save room, yet still make your toddlers tenting life comfortable and keep them happy, this company called EasyGoProducts has made this amazing blow-up toddler bed. It is SO easy to pack, SO easy to blow up and SO protective for your toddler. There is no rolling off a blow-up mattress in the middle of the night due to the well-designed blow up protective wall. Amazon sells them for a reasonable price here. The best part is you can easily use it for other sleepovers in the future, maybe grandma’s house or vacations, etc…
Baby Gym
I am SO glad we brought our baby gym with us. When your camping with two kids, it seems like you’re always doing something (which isn’t anything new from day to day life with two) but things are just…messier. Having the baby gym with us allowed me to be hands-free while the baby was happy kicking around, having some independent playtime and working on her cognitive skills.
The baby gym I have is also SUPER easy to pack and very slim. It folds up on both sides and comes in a little carrying bag. It is so sleek and slim when folded up, it takes no room at all in your vehicle. Another bonus to this baby gym is its UV protected and water-resistant design. It even comes with a little tummy time pillow. (Woohoo! Win-Win).
P.S Amazon happens to sell this exact one for $69.99 which is almost $20.00 cheaper than toys r us (yay! Frugal finds!)
Inflatable Baby Pool
I think we can all agree, whether you’re roughing it camping or “clean” camping, everything somehow still winds up dirty…including the kids… or maybe I should say, ESPECIALLY the kids. I am ALL for a dirty kid who is having fun, but at a certain point (in my experience at least) children like to FEEL clean and BE clean before bedtime (I think it just helps them sleep better).
When your camping it’s hard to figure out where you are going to give your baby a bath right? Well, a small inflatable pool (you can even get them from the dollar store), is an awesome idea. I prefer an inflatable baby pool over a plastic bin. Anything that can deflate and fold up is going to save space.
Blow the pool up, fill it with just a little boiled water mixed with cold water to create the perfect warm bath and there you have it!! A perfect, quick, portable baby bath! (Ruba dub dub)
Plastic Bin / Latch Tote
Maybe it’s just my Type A personality, but even when I am camping I feel the need to try and be organized. Yes, sometimes it’s organized chaos, but there is still a method to the madness. Having these nice big latch bins is so perfect for keeping everything organized. It conserves space in your car and protects your items through the night.
We were able to fit SO much stuff in our bin to take down, and then when we were done with the food/cooking items in our bin over the six days, it freed up space inside the bin to store some of the loser items we had squished in the car (blankets, towels, toys, etc…) to create more room for the road back.
I highly recommend them and they are so cheap. I picked ours up at our local Walmart for $8.99 or you can bulk order on amazon for convenience!
Baby Wipes
Finally, baby wipes to the rescue! When you have a new baby as I do, I ALWAYS have baby wipes on hand thankfully. When camping, I realized JUST how much I use them for everything and how they are an awesome camping hack.
Not only are they cheap but they are once again easy to pack and they keep everything clean!! I use them to wash the girl’s dirty faces and hands. You can wipe out the dust in your pots and pans. How about when you want to wash your face at night? And I am not going to lie, they are a good toilet paper substitute. The list honestly just goes on.
I hope you found this helpful in one way or another! Let me know below what camping hacks you love and can’t live without because I seriously love hearing from all of you!!
