How To Get Google AdSense Approved
You just started a blog, and are ready to get Google AdSense approved to start monetizing your blog but don’t know where to begin, now what? Or what if you have the process started but got rejected?
Don’t panic. I have been there. Multiple times over. Don’t get discouraged, I am going to teach you how to get Google AdSense approved even AFTER being rejected.
My hope is you can take some of this advice, put it towards trying again and get approved as I did.
Let me specify I am not a Google AdSense “expert.” I was determined to get approved to monetize my blog and I wasn’t going to give up… and I succeeded!
Let’s dive right in.
What is Google AdSense?
It is simply a platform to monetize your blog through Google Adsense. Once you are approved through Google Adsense, they will find optimized ad’s to place on your blog for you to start making money. Typically it picks up things that interest the person who’s looking at your blog in the hopes that they click on the Ad.
For instance, let’s say you’ve been checking out trips to Las Vegas, but waiting for good deals to come up. You then take a break and come on over to Frugal and Frills for some light reading. BAM! You notice in my sidebar there happens to be an ad for “cheap flights to Vegas” and you click! Google likes this because they get money, and we, as the site hosting the ad, get a form of compensation for it as well.
How to set up a Google AdSense account
If you haven’t even set up your account yet, I suggest you click here for very simple step by step instructions provided by Google.
I already created a Google AdSense account, what now?
To start, get a good plugin to make life easier! Ad Inserter Plugin is what I’d recommend using as it is what Google suggests and provides step by step instructions for. Google will give you a code you will need to copy into that plugin…
Go to your WordPress dashboard “settings” and then click on “ad inserter.”
From there you will want to go to the settings section with the Ad Inserter plugin.
Now your final step is to copy that coding Google gave you into the “header” space.
Then there will be a message from google that says “we found your code.” Give Google some time to see if it’s compatible.
Now, what if you have patiently and excitedly waited for approval but you receive the following message:
“Thank you for applying, unfortunately, we are unable to accept you at this time.”
Don’t panic! They will give you an explanation as to WHY this is happening. There are so many reasons. A few common ones could be:
Not enough content or lack of quality content:
Perhaps you’ve just started your blog and have signed up to get Google AdSense. However, your problem may be that you barely have any articles if any at all.
It seems to be a rule of thumb that 20-30 articles are a good time to try. You may need to consider the quality of your content. Google cares about there advertisements so this means your website has to be and look legit! It needs to be optimized, look appealing, have good loading times, etc…
Contact / Privacy Policy:
People have to be able to contact you and you need to make sure you have a good privacy policy in place to protect them and the data you have collected.
Google AdSense has specific points that need to be brought out in your privacy policy. This means you definitely won’t get approved if this is not in place.
Other Ad Networks:
Google Ads doesn’t want to be competing. Realistically if you have other ad networks already on, you most likely won’t be approved with Google AdSense.
Scraped content:
When someone takes your content or uses it on their site without giving you credit or uses it and adds no additional value.
There are a handful of other reasons, but I encourage you to do your research as well. To me, these four seem to be the most common.
My “rejection” was due to “scraped content”
This was driving me NUTS!! I have never scrapped someone else’s content. All the information and articles are my own! My voice, my images, etc…
However, when you think about it, motherhood blogs discuss very similar topics. If there are other motherhood blogs that get more traffic to there page then mine, my articles could be seen by Google as not providing enough “value” and therefore deeming it “scraped.”
Here’s what I did…
First, you can try and rewrite areas of your blog posts and try reapplying for approval again. This method still was not working for me though.
It’s hard to find out exactly where the scraped content is coming from because Google doesn’t break it down for you. But one resource I found to be extremely helpful is called Copyscape.
The site offers a Copyscape premium package for really cheap where you buy a certain amount of “credits” and based on how many you bought they can check a certain amount of articles/pages.
One large batch search where you upload your entire website will pull everything that could be “scraped content” or somewhat “plagiarized.”
What resulted was that one of my articles came up as well as my privacy policy. This made me feel uneasy that the internet and Google were reading it as scraped/plagiarized.
I set that article to private on my blog page so as not to have any legal/copyrighting issues. After reviewing my privacy policy there was room for improvement. After adding more detail and making it more visible to my audience, I reapplied and within minutes was approved!
Getting approved by Google AdSense is possible even after rejection
Don’t give up and do your research! Continue to tweak things. Trust me, you’ve got this! Keep in mind, it took me THREE times before I got approved.

Hi Asia,
I am so glad I found your post. I had also gotten rejected for “scraped content” and just couldn’t figure out why because I have written all of my blog posts with the exception of having 3 guest posters. I think the problem for me was my terms and conditions page, I just used your recommendation of checking for duplicated content through the copy search website, and that is where I had duplications. I think because a lot of that is legal jargon. So I just re-wrote that page, deleted a lot of stuff that is likely duplicated elsewhere because it is legalese. I have just reapplied for Google Adsense, fingers crossed. I really appreciate your post!

Yeah, I agree with you. We and my partner used to apply for an Adsense when our website has only 5 posts. But after some sort of efforts, we created a 30+ high-quality content, and now it has ads. And yes a .com domain approved fast than other TLDs such as .xyz, .online, etc. Another thing that helps us to get approved is to create a privacy policy and about page.
Asia
YES!! The privacy policy and about page are huge!!
