How To Change Your Payment Due Dates
Are you getting tired of making multiple payments a month? Perhaps even missing payments at times because it is so hard to keep up with the varying payment dates? Then the solution to your problem may be that it Is time to change your payment due dates.
Did you know you have a say about your billing cycle?
Yep, it’s true! Most lenders or service providers will assign your billing date based on the date you signed up. So if you signed up for your cell phone on the 12th of the month, most likely your 30 day (or close that) cycle will be charged on the 12th of each month. This can be really inconvenient for paying bills. However, did you know that majority of companies have flexibility in billing cycles just as long as you ask!
How do I change my payment due date on my billing cycle?
Literally, it’s as simple as picking up the phone and calling and asking! Nothing more to it. My suggestion is to change your dates for the end of the month, around the 25th-31st. This way you can have once a month where you pay bills rather than multiple times a month. Not only is this great for the ease of it, but you can budget this way using the half payment budgeting method and never have odd pay periods where one week you have a surplus of money and the next period a large deficit.
My suggestion is to go through your bill cycles and see what days your bills are due. Anything that is before the 25th I would call and arrange to be moved to some time at the end of the month.
Can I do this on my credit card payment due date?
Yes! The same rule applies as above call your credit card issuer’s customer service line and ask for your desired due date, then make the change. Depending on what credit card issuer you are with, you may even be able to do this step online.
Will this affect my credit score?
If you are anything like me and love maintaining a great credit score, OR are working on repairing a credit score and are worried that these changes will affect it, please rest assured that it will have no impact on your score.
Why is changing my payment dates beneficial?
As previously mentioned, it Is really beneficial for keeping track of your bill payments and not having to worry till the end of the month. The only thing you need to be on top of is making sure you are setting aside money for these bills so you aren’t strapped at the end of the month. How do you do this? The best most successful way that I recommend is by using the half payment budget method. This will help you prepare, save and not be stranded with odd leftover amounts each pay period.
I truly hope you find this useful and helpful!
