Pinterest SEO Tips To Increase Your Traffic
If you read my article on long-tail keywords then you are a step ahead already. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend you start with that article and then come back to learning Pinterest SEO tips. There is a very strong correlation between the two. Why is this?
Pinterest Is A Search Engine
A lot of people think Pinterest is just another social media platform but in fact, Pinterest is run almost exactly like Google as it is a search engine. What does this mean for you?
You Need To Understand Basic SEO (search engine optimization)
To make your Pinterest functional and professional first I suggest you get a business account and make sure you apply to have all your pins “rich pins.”
What Is A Rich Pin?
The long and short of it is that it provides more information on your pin underneath your blog URL link. It nicely bolds everything so it looks a lot more professional than an average pin. A rich pin is also SEO-focused so it improves your ranking! Meaning you will be easier to find through proper SEO if you are set up with rich pins.
If you need help setting up rich pins I recommend checking this out for step-by-step instructions.
Now that you have a business account, and are rich pin verified, it’s time to put your Pinterest SEO skills to work with these tips.
Set Up Relevant Pinterest Boards
If you have a photography blog, for instance, set up your Pinterest account with multiple boards. The first being your main blog board and the rest being relevant boards to your blog that people are searching for. Here’s a pro tip on how to seek out relevant boards. Search Photography in the search bar and look at what the drop-down menu is suggesting…
From this information, I would make boards based on the drop-down suggestions. Perhaps start a “Photography Editing Tips,” “Photography Poses,” “Photoshop for beginners” etc…
Use this same idea for whatever niche you’re in. The more specific your boards are, the better they will rank.
Make Your Boards SEO Friendly With Long-Tail Keywords
If you have a board named “Photography Editing Tips” then you will want your description of your board to also have that long-tail keyword phrase in it. Perhaps make your board description something like:
“Here you will find photography editing tips to take your photos to the next level. Learn how to use photoshop, lightroom etc..”
Make Your Pinterest Titles SEO Friendly
The easiest way to make sure your Pinterest title is SEO friendly is by making your Pin title the same as your blog post title and your pin description the same as your meta description if you have optimized SEO on your blog.
See below, this is an example of my blog post title and my meta description and then take a look at my pin title and my Pinterest description.
These are the details of my blog posts
Look how I transferred those exact details to my pin…
Create A Beautiful Blog Post Pin
Next, for all your hard SEO work to pay off, you need a super appealing Pin graphic. The best app to get for that will be Canva to create the most beautiful pins. I recommend 6 different pins PER post (yes, that’s right. If you are not already doing that, that will be one of the main reasons your Pinterest and blog don’t have a lot of traffic). In my experience, a Pin that has script writing mixed with bright black bolded fonts and a nice bright background perform best!
Now PIN IT to WIN IT
Now that your pins are SEO-friendly and optimized it is time to start pinning it and driving traffic to your blog!
First, you want to pin to all YOUR relevant boards. You should have multiple boards that you’re articles can be pinned to.
Next, you will want to pin to group boards. Group boards are SO important for massive exposure.
A great way to find group boards to join is pingroupie. Another way that I have found success is by exploring other people’s Pinterest accounts of the same niche and see what group boards they are apart of.
Most of the time you will have to email the group administrator and ask for access to the board. Make a list of administrator emails that have relevant group boards you would like to join and take a day to send out emails asking for access. The more group boards your accepted for, the more opportunity you have to pin your pins to those boards and skyrocket your growth quickly due to the exposure it gives you.
Tailwind is the best app you can get for Pinterest because you can set up all your pins to pin on their own with the scheduler. You also can join tribes (similar to groups) and pin your pins to the tribes, again gaining way more exposure for growth. Tailwind is the key to most people’s Pinterest success.
It is a MUST have and it’s FREE or you can pay a small fee for different upgrades. I pay $14.99 a month because the plan gives me more and I like having the analytics to see how my pins are doing.
Check out Tailwind here.
Stumped for what to write about next?
Pinterest has an awesome way to find out what your audience is actively searching for, meaning if there actively searching it, they want more information on it. All you simply have to do is follow these steps…
Go To Your Pinterest Analytics:
Go To Audience Insights:
Check out your categories and interest:
So for instance, you can see my audience is actively searching up parenting, home decor, DIY and Crafts as well as baby and baby care topics. This is a great insight for me to write something to do with this topic. For instance “Baby hacks for new moms” or “DIY Crafts for Kids.”
This is the beauty of business accounts, it is being able to dig into your analytics!
Don’t’ be afraid to test out different things. Just like I said in my last post about long-tail keyword research, it takes time to figure out what works. It will take time to start noticing the ranking change, but stick with it because you will start ranking higher and higher.
Overall, if you can keep these Pinterest SEO tips in mind each time you go to write an article and pin an article, you will start increasing your monthly unique views. In turn, this will improve your overall blog traffic!

Hi,
I have a new Pinterest account and I can’t find my pins or my own website in the Pinterest search. I searched for all kinds of combinations and typed in my domain as well. I have exact keywords on my board, pin, headlines, in the article and so on. Is this normal? Am I banned?
Asia
hmm I have never heard of that… are you sure when you’re looking for your pins you have the drop-down menu on the side of the search bar that you have selected “your pins” not “all pins”?
Peter
Yes, I tested both “your pins” and “all pins”. I hope it’s because the account is like 4 weeks old and it will work soon.
