10 Frugal Summer Activities Under $10 In Vancouver
Every year Vancouver, BC has so much to offer come summertime. Personally, it’s the month I live for! The best part is that Vancouver offers so many family-friendly frugal (say that three times fast) summer activities for your entire family. If your on a budget this summer or looking for ways to enjoy the outdoors but not spend a bunch, keep reading! I am going to give you my top ten frugal summer activities you can do with your kids before the season is over, all for less than $10.00
Kits Pool
This is such a beautiful pool. The pool is super clean, salt water-filled and right on the ocean! There are a couple of slides for the kids and best of all it cost my husband, myself and our two little ones a total of $6.00 to go for the entire day. A great alternative if you’re the kind of mom that is driven nuts by sand being everywhere (haha!). Also, you can bring in your food and beverages, so you can keep the cost down that way.
Biking the Seawall
My daughter is only two and a half, so although she doesn’t have an actual pedal bike, she does have one of those little cruiser bikes. We put the baby in the stroller, and take her bike down to the seawall and let her cruise all around on it. I think she gets super excited when she sees all the other bikers biking and thinks she’s doing a real big girl activity. Plus, the seawall around Vancouver is so breathtaking on a beautiful summer day! It is a fun activity for the whole family. Bonus, it’s FREE!
Richmond Night Market
What little kid doesn’t love fairgrounds where there are endless things to look at, an abundance of food to choose from, tons of entertainment and for all those little dinosaur lovers, a dino park!! This is a fun family activity to do on an early summer evening. It costs $4.25 for admission for adults and the kids are free from 10 and under! Another inexpensive family fun night idea!
Water Parks
We have SO many water parks in Vancouver and they are all usually surrounded by a large beautiful grassy area. You can set up for the day and picnic while the little ones run wild in the water park sprinklers. It is a great way for them to stay cool. This is another clean alternative to going to a sandy beach and having sand everywhere.
If you want a list of all the different water parks around the Vancouver area, click here. My personal favorite is the big sprinklers in coal harbor right in front of the Tap Shack. The view of the ocean from there is gorgeous and once again, it’s FREE.
The Beach
For all those mama’s who DON’T care about a little sand being everywhere, the beach is a great free activity! This is probably where my husband and I spend the most time with our kids. We bought a UV protected tent to provide shade for our girls this year, and it makes going to the beach so much easier. It takes away some stress knowing my girls always have a shaded protected spot to sit. I try and pick one of the beaches in Vancouver that have a swimmable area so we can keep our little ones cool. For us, English Bay is usually our first choice, but there is no shortage of beaches in the city.
Movie in the Park
I love this activity idea SO much! What do kids love just as much as snacks? MOVIES! Then why not put there two favorite things together and take them to a movie in the park. All around Metro Vancouver we have places during the summer that offer free movies in the park. Stanley Park, Richmond, North Vancouver, etc… Click here for the movie in the park options and pick the location you’re interested in. From here, you will be able to view the movie schedule that is set! This is a great way to end the summer with a family activity that once again is…FREE!
Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge
The suspension bridge is super cool for kids to see. It is such a beautiful area of the city and is pretty shaded. It’s a good activity if it’s warm outside but you want to stay cool. It’s got lots of places for kids to explore. You can do a leisure small hike if your child is up for the adventure, or you can simply bring a picnic. Lots of options and it’s free.
Krause Berry Farms & Estate Winery
Winery? As a kid’s activity? That’s right!! Well… Kind of! They have all sorts of activities and food for kids and let’s not forget us, parents…There is wine tasting!! To me, this is a perfect family activity as it has something for everyone! Throughout the summer they have lots of free little events and live music. It’s a great place to check out and keep updated with.
Maplewood Farm
The kids LOVE this place! It is a petting zoo that lets you get in the caged area and play with the bunnies, the goats and some of the other pets. My daughter had an absolute blast here! They have tons of different animals to see, and the grounds are beautiful. You are allowed to bring outdoor food and beverage in, so you can pack a picnic for whatever is suitable for your family and stay for the day! Kids 18 months and under are free and adult admission is only $8.50!
Aquabus
The little Aquabus in Vancouver is so adorable. The fun bright colors always get the kids excited. It’s a fun way to see the city from a different view. There are multiple different routes you can take and explore. Depending on what you choose the cost is only about $3.50 – $5.50 for an Adult and kids 3 and under are FREE.
This wraps up my top ten frugal summer activities in Vancouver that are no more than $10.00! With summer here, enjoy the sunny clear days with your kids! Drop some other summer activities you know of below!
